Dr Jennifer Opoku-Lageyre

Dr Jennifer Opoku-Lageyre is an experienced Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in the field. She has worked in a variety of NHS and private settings with adults experiencing mild to complex mental health problems. Jennifer currently works as a therapist and clinical supervisor for Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Jennifer has a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Jennifer is a member of The British Psychological Society and the Health & Care Professional Council.

Jennifer works with young and older adults, experiencing mild to complex mental health problems, she has also facilitated group work. Jennifer is committed to tailoring the therapy session to meet the unique needs of her clients. She offers therapy in a time-limited, goal-orientated approach or over a longer time frame according to individual needs. Jennifer values working collaboratively and respectfully with her clients and providing a compassionate space that is focused on the specific needs of her clients.

Jennifer is trained in and has worked with a variety of therapeutic models. She works primarily from cognitive behavioural, mindfulness-based, and compassion-focused therapy models. Jennifer uses EMDT (eye movement desensitisation & reprocessing) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) informed treatment for trauma and other complex needs. Where appropriate, Jennifer also draws on feeling and ego state and comprehensive resource model approaches.

Jennifer’s areas of speciality include Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety. She also works with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) Health anxiety, Social phobia, Sexual abuse, Bereavement, Self-esteem issues and Relationship problems.

Jennifer has undertaken various training on Long Term Conditions and Medically Unexplained Symptoms such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Pain Management. Her research interest lies in the use of mindfulness as a clinical intervention and the use of EMDR in treating trauma.

Jennifer is a fully accredited EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner who trained with Sandi-Richman, Consultant Psychologist, and past president of the EMDR UK and Ireland Association. Jennifer uses EMDR in the treatment of Trauma and complex needs for Clinical Partners and for the NHS. Her work is informed by the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) evidence-based therapeutic interventions guidelines.

Jennifer is described by colleagues as extremely professional and respectful, she comes highly recommended by her colleagues in the NHS and by one of our most senior Clinical Partner staff for her compassionate approach to treating her patients.
